Every day, thousands of people browse through Instagram location-tagged posts to look for accounts they like and want to follow. Instagram has little by little made their location features more powerful.

Location Tagging is a method of identifying a location, whether it be a photo you have posted or where you’re posting a status. It helps potential customers find you, even if they aren’t even looking for you.

When a user is sharing a post on Instagram, Facebook or SnapChat, they are offered an "Add Location" option or to Tag a location. It lists check-in locations nearby at the location, or you can search for location if you are posting from home.

Location Tagging is a worthwhile way to boost your venue’s visibility and improve your online presence.

The great thing is when your customers tag your restaurant and hotel’s location in their posts, it’s basically free advertising for you.

Say you're an Italian restaurant and you posted an image of one of your signature dishes and tagged your location, and your followers then shared that post. Then those following your followers who shared your photo (potential customers) can click on it can view all the other posts that have been uploaded on that location.

People trust people they know for advice on places to visit. If someone they know tags your restaurant or hotel in their post, followers can click on the location link to see exactly where your venue is located, additionally any other photos that were taken there. If they like what they see, they might ask their friend who posted the photo about how their experience was with you, or just come and visit you!

Because the engagement is high when posts are location tagged, you ought to do the same when you post to your own social media accounts. Tag your Instagram photos with your location so when people are exploring the app and stumble upon your page, they can quickly identify where you are.
